After two late night lengthy maintenance periods (that's one maintenance period ahead of the scheduled three!) laden with binary sweat, we completed our disk restructuring in the VPS host sever. We have consolidated our free space and redeployed them onto a 4-disk RAID 10 device, providing superior performance and improved redundancy when compared against our previous basic RAID 1 configuration. Overall, it was a smooth process, bar a false alarm when the server took a slightly longer time to complete a reboot.

With more available diskspace, we will be making arrangements for all our VPS plans to be boosted by an additional 50% more diskspace. Of course, this will definitely apply to all existing VPS owners - the diskspace boosts will be effected within the week! At the same time, we are lowering the rates for all VMware VPS plans - perfect for those looking at truly virtualised VPSes.

Kinda worrying when all the news updates are about outages, isn't it? But still, we've gotta report what needs to be reported. There was another unexpected network outage on 14 May 2009, due to a router reset over at NTT, between 19:30 - 19:45 GMT+8, and caused certain parts of the network to be inaccessible due to routing issues. We have reminded the datacentre to pursue the matter with NTT and to either improve the reliability of the equipment, or provide ample advance notification. We apologise if the outage has inconvenienced anyone.
